Fort Polk, LA is a U.S. Army base set inside the city of Leesville, in the western portion of Louisiana near the border of Texas. Fort Polk was first established in 1941 to help train soldiers during World War II. The fort shut down after the second World War, andit opened again for the Korean War, and eventually stayed permanently active after the Vietnam War.

In the early 1990s Fort Polk became the new home of the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC), and currently supports several combat units. Fort Polk is the site of the U.S. Army's focus on modernizing its infantry, and soldiers stationed there undergo advanced training. The base features a medical facility, dentist offices, and a military police command center to help support both the troops and local civilians.
Leesville, the town surrounding Fort Polk, has a small population of around 7,000 residents (though if the populations of the Army base and the town were combined, the population would reach over 20,000). Many of the jobs in Fort Polk and Leesville revolve around providing services for the many troops and their families stationed in the area. Several sports celebrities hail from the Fort Polk area, including NFL players Eddie Fuller and Kevin Mawae, and politicians like former Representative Buddy Leach, Jr. have called Fort Polk home.
Fort Polk real estate, and residential and commercial property in Leesville, is seeing a growing demand. Due to the nature of the Army base, and its continually changing population levels, there will always need to be affordable housing for families. Accordingly, Fort Polk real estate is reasonably priced, especially considering its idyllic location in beautiful Louisiana.
